On individual breeding cages it is easier to use individual seed hoppers.
I have glass seed hoppers that I bought of a breeder who had also had them for many years. With this glass design seed hopper it is almost impossible for the birds to scatter the seed. I don't believe that you could buy them now, and it would probably cost heaps to have them made.

I haven't seen those glass ones for years. I recall an old Canary breeder who lived next door to where I grew up had the same type. I forget how it worked but he had some type of bracket so they sat outside the cage and the canaries could only put their heads in - is that how yours work Canary/weaver?

The cage front has the circle hole so that the birds can poke their head through into the seed hopper.
I have just put a piece of wire from one side to the other of the circle in the cage front, that holds the seed hopper in place.
They are a lot better than the currently made galvanised/glass front seed hoppers that I used previously and the birds could still flick the seed out.

I have never seen these before. They look like a fantastic idea. Pity they are not still available/made.

I'll have to have a closer look at the bongs next time I am in town; I seem to remember quite a range of glass bowls with big holes, perhaps they may be suitable for use as a hopper like those above. Perhaps the manufacturer may be convinced to make a small run of a modified design for birdos.
Those hoppers look wonderful. I have been feeding seeds separated in several small coop cups and a lot is wasted.

Bongs also sold in WA. You just are not allowed to use them. So maybe I will have a good look next time I pass the right shop.
