we have very large pure black as well as brown ones. They are murder. And they dont leave if they cant get a feed and they definitely dont get bored. They check out my aviaries all day hoping on the offchance. I also have a large granny flat for my canaries and they also try and get through the screen doors and peek through the windows which terrifies the birds. I now have screens for every window. Love th tropics.

Could always make a Scarecrow and sit him on roof edge of aviary or cage...just move him around couple of times a week...

Somebody in the neighbourhood must be feeding them...as it has worked for me in the past

I live near a park and butcher birds are abound, my house mates keep on telling me that there are butcher birds hanging on the Aviary wire and trying to get to my birds by louring them to the front of the Aviary with their melodious song but, no go as my Aviaries are double wired and the wires are kept apart with small twigs on all four corners of the Wire surface the Gap between the Wires is so far apart that the beak of a predatory Bird is nowhere near long enough to get to my Birds even if newly fledged youngsters are clinging onto the inside Wire, try that ,its well worth the extra small outlay.

Thank for that good idea...I Have the small 6mm mouse and snake wire...I its more of a fright for the birds as well ..when the Butcher bird is about..

Couple of strands of electric fence will keep them away.

On the scarecrow idea, that can be very variable in its effectiveness.
I had some effect by placing a t-shirt on the clothesline near the aviary but I'd change it or move it every so often. Just a thought...

I threw a 12 inch shifter at one to scare it.

The thud of the shifter hitting the fenced spooked it so much it never came back.

Three months later there were two little ones having a go at my goldfinches under the distant yet watchful eye of the paretn bird.

They are evil
