Just thought I would write in to agree with Ian.
We do have problems with retailers who don;t rotate stock or store it in a hot humid environment like near an aquarium. Also seed can get sold on - we recently had a complaint made by someone who bought from a retailer we do not sell to - anyone's guess what path the seed took to get there. All this can lead to mould issues which are well out of our control.
As for dusty seed, it is a valid point, we do occasionally have production issues. They can be simply human error and carelessness. We also can have problems with supply, for example, right now millet is becoming extremely hard to buy so we are accepting grain of - still reasonable - but not the quality we would normally aim to buy. This will come through to you as inconsistent mixes but is simply a reality of having to produce thousands of tonnes of grain each year.
If you can imagine producing hundreds of pallets of birdseed every week and getting it perfectly consistent every time then please apply for a job as our production manager. As it stands if we get it right 99% of the time it still means hundreds of bags going out each week that are ok but possibly not quite acceptable to breeders.
please take the bags back to be swapped or refunded if you aren;t happy - Ian is right - probably just the end of a batch that wasn;t noticed by a bloke who has been bagging seed all day - a thankless job!

Finchy, perhaps your supplier wasn't going through enough product and had been sitting on the shelf for a long period of time or hadn't been storing it well. Or perhaps just a dud batch.
I now source my seed from Peter Slade from Quirindi either through bird sales or a local produce store he supplies.
