And here I was thinking it was a medical reference !!So, Derek- why the name Gomer??
Originally mentioned in "The House Of God" a satire about doctors in American hospitals, the Gomer was a title given to older patients with multiple complex problems. Derived from the phase "Get Out Of My Emergency Room" and immortalised in the quote "Gomer's never die", it has resonated with young doctors through the english speaking world.
