Sorry to hear that brooksy. In early January 2013 on that record Sydney / Newcastle day only birds I lost were tri-coloured PF. Must be less tolerant of the extreme heat.

Zebs managed to still one a few days later, however it obviously had permanent damage from the heat. It was never quite right and died at a young age.

Exactly the same thing happened to me Ian. Talking to a mate he also noted that BF & Tri-colour PFs were particularly sensitive to the really hot days.

Ye i know there were times today when i thought what the flaming hell am i doing.
The Hecks did stand up well along with the Pictorellas, still quite sprightly at the end of the day.

Do your aviaries have all metal walls and are any insulated
Today it was 50c in my bird room and a thermometer in the shade was 47c
No losses, watered the aviary floors early and had hoses running in the big flight.
Did notice a number of chicks that I class under done already out but they should survive.
Where possible my metal aviary walls have old Real Estate core flute boards fixed to them.
They virtually stop all the radiated heat. Well worth consideration.
I know it must be too hot for the birds when the Gouldians go to ground and they are spending a
lot of time there at the moment.

I do have colorbond walls and roof. The roof and the top 1500mm of the walls have roofing sark lining (blue on one side silver on the other) but the aviary does face west.

I have my avairys on auto waters, so that. If like on Saturday the temp is 46 and I am away from home working. The avairys still get their water flushed at 11am and 3pm. It gives great peace of mind. But I still go and check as soon as I get home. No losses. And it was only 6 degrees cooler on Sunday. My avairys are un-insulated metal, but under a huge lilac tree. The auto waters anyone can do/get done. The tree not so easy.
