thanks diane, I try to do that with my white breasts but if they breed white to white I figure it doesnt really matter, as the normals and whites are all healthy beautiful birds. So I figure if I keep blues, Ill only keep cocks as they are the ones I like, sell off any blue hens that emerge and avoid breeding blue to blue. I would like three separate blues, Ive seen garyh 's birds so one will come from there if hes willing to sell to me next year, can anyone suggest other breeders with good blood lines? I think the parrot finch will go. thanks john

There isnt a problem about breeding WC to WC, nor yellow to yellow just the blues at the moment, but this is being addressed by some dedicated breeders.

I always so far have bred PB/WB bird to a WB bird in the Normal and Blues this will keep good size in the birds. This year i will have 6pair of Normals where 3 of the pairs will be WB - WB but i usually avoid it. So out of 26 pairs this year only 5 pairs will be WB - WB pairings, other 2 are in the Blue pairings.

Interesting. Have you noticed a preference to one particular sex being the WB bird to continue the good size? Or does this work with either being the WC?

No preference, i use both.

I just bought a blue cock bhpbbb and a yellow split for blue hen rhpbyb.My first blues.I just want to know is it better to pair them up or to split them.
Can you give me a reason for your answer.

Hi louis
I would keep them together as they will produce blues, pastel cocks, silver hens and split blues in normal and YB
If you split them up the YB split blue will be wasted unless you have another blue to pair it up with

Once you produce your own blues from these I would put some to normals and YB to produce your own splits

That would be a great pairing for those birds,it is always advisable to put a split to a colour(blue) even if the split is a yellow back.With a spit blue yellow back hen to a blue cock,you will breed some pastel blue cocks but not hens. Craig
