all others are more secretive and need to produce youngsters to determine the genetic make up of the parent birds.

True in terms of head colour inheritance.
Of course these birds can still be carriers (splits) of other autosomal recessive mutations - blue, aus yellow, aus dilute, white breast, lilac breast, etc...

Hi Iaos...do you have any YH Gouldians in with them?

No, before these three YTB turned up, I only had BH RTB.

I had 3 turn up from 17 bred, so just under the expected probability.

Cheers Ian

If blackheads were bred from YHs, BHs are a sex linked recessive, these BHs can only be BH hens,( type b) which will show a red tip but also carries one factor for yellow headedness.

Genetically impossible, there must have been funny business going on, (not unheard of) particularly if you colony breed
from a pair of YHs, where the Cock bird is split to BH, this mating can only produce BH hens type (c)
no BH Cock birds ever, in a colony system, one can not guaranty with absolute certainty the parentage of a particular brood of youngsters,
to be absolutely certain that these particular youngsters were bred by this particular set of parents, one must cabinet breed, one pair per cabinet, only then can one state without doubt that these youngsters are the off spring of this particular breeding pair, they must be, because in cabinet breeding there is no outside medeling.
