Are we sure this is a Blue Faced cross? The colour result seems unlikely with the BF's blue face and green chest. Might it actually be a Peales cross, given their red faces/tails and blue chests?

Either way, by total coincidence I came across this cheeky bugger today, selling similar looking birds as 'Blue Breast Gouldians' for USD100!!! http://www.flyingdutchmancanaries.com/index.php?p=1_134

Hi Finchy, that is actually a light melanistic mutation which at certain angles reflects blue in the chest. Nearly or mostly all of them revert back to normal looking birds in a moult or two.
I don't believe it is caused from a lack of sunlight but something internally goes haywire to cause this as with every bird i have tried to replicate has moulted out normal. Craig

The birds in the first pic, and in that link are different. But both a nice looking colour.
