I don't think this issue requires huge sums of money to solve, it requires all clubs to work as one to apply pressure. This is now happening. We represented 195 Vic clubs at our April 7th meeting. Please refer to the following for all the details - viewtopic.php?t=18414&start=143 A response from Minister Pulford was promised and is expected any day, and if it is not recieved soon or is unfavourable then there are plans underway to move things along.
For the record - my return airfare for the recent meeting with Minister Pulford's office was funded jointly by the FSA and CCBFA and I paid for taxis to and from Melbourne Airport (willingly), there was no cost to VAC or ASA clubs whatsoever. I was unaware and am in the process of confirming with VAC assertions that higher entrance fees are being collected to fund legal costs related to this issue.

This is in part true, the VAC are receiving $1 from the entry fee charged by branches of the ASA ,in the case of Geelong we paid the VAC from memory about $480,needless to say we had a gate of 480 patrons. This money is to go to fund legal fees. Each club when running a bird sale has some expences,in our case the shed we hire costs us $1250 to rent, this is the reason we charge $5 entrance fee to help cover costs and give us some funding to see us through the year.In Victoria unlike other states we sell the table not per bird so if you have 2 birds or 50 birds the table charge is the same.

In a time of adversity you don't compound the problem.
The damage the committee's decision has done may not be repairable.
With so much interest disappearing from the sales because of outside decisions now is the time to
support the sales out of general revenue.
Bird Sellers, donation of $10, entrance fee $0. Promote it as such, run a good raffle, and push food
sales etc. Have a donation tin it gives people a choice. It may surprise what people are willing to give
Melb. bird sale is really in it's death throws and that is a sad situation.
There were few there on the weekend and going by comments even less of those attending next year.
I've had it confirmed that indeed $1 from each entry fee at VAC affiliated Victorian sales is going to the VAC (as Jack says above) and I'm told all VAC/ASA clubs agreed. I personally thought it strange and hence was confident it was merely a rumour, so I apologise to those whose word I doubted.
misguided animal liberationists
Those are the culprits. People who do not understand that Birdkeepers are frequently much kinder to their birds, than Mother Nature is. And that the space they live in is restricted in nature by natural territories.
