there are a couple of breeders near me who use the old needle method to sex birds. if the needle rotates clockwise its one sex, anti-clockwise is the opposite. damned if I know how it works but they both have a 100% success rate

The guy I bought my gouldians uses a wedding ring to determine the sex of uncoloured birds. The wedding ring was hanging on some cotton thread and he very gently swung it back and forward to get it moving and the ring sort of swings one way or the other and the direction it swings determines the sex......cant remember which way is which though! So glad gouldians can be sexed by the colour!

Might try this technique on a few adult birds first, then try it on my uncoloured juveniles.

Yeh I know they make nests anyway, but I keep sticking my hand in when they come out, to check for eggs anyway. I am being optomistic.
As for the ring/needle method. I knew a woman who swore she could do it on pregnant women and get it right (that was back when I was expecting no 2 offspring) so she did it and I told her she was wrong. The subsequent arrival of the daughter I said I was having not the son she said I was haveing disproved the reliability of this method. ;)
Wish I could look at a bird and know it's sex the way I used to be able to declare I was pregnant and having whatever sex with complete accuracy. :o
