Thank you all for your advice. I will take it on board. Now just have to source a new hen, or a new pair, but may wait to get a young one/s for next season as it may be too late for this season.

Perhaps Cathy is trying to find out what would happen in a situation where the deed does get done, so she is better informed about these birds?
