The one thing I would change with my timber shelf for the tea tree,Is use a stiff wire mesh to allow any faeces to fall through to the floor. As you get a slight build up on the timber. It is also up high to not allow any potential rodents into that area.

At the moment I have a shelf up high for the gouldians nesting boxes and brush attached to the wall under it. I am thinking of taking the shelf down and put up rheo? (stuff they use in concrete). Then I can hang boxes and baskets at different levels, with brush inbetween. I read recently in a STGF article that gouldian boxes all in a row on a shelf is not a good setup, they do better with boxes at staggered highs.

I had read this article as well, but a friend of mine that breeds a heap of Gouldians each year has his nest boxes all at the same height. Some times I think the birds do it just to make you shake your head

My nest boxes were all roughly the same height, but I did place the openings away from each other, and grouped a couple of boxes together and some further apart, just trying to get a mix of positions. I have read that gouldians in the wild nest as far apart as 10k, dont think I have enough room in the garden to accommodate that!

I have 2 pair of Red Headed Gouldians, a pair I have had for two years and a pair I bought at the end of last year. This year the younger hen has breed once, but layed at the same time and in the same nest as the older hen (they produced nine babies between them) and I only saw the older cock around the nest ( all 3 feed the fledglings). The young cock is out on his own. I thought by spliting up the nest hights he might get a look in next season. The two hens are laying again in the same nest ( have layed 11 eggs ) and are taking turns to sit. The older hen has also produced two nest of 3 fledglings each.
