The prices vary from area to area.
Generally most of my common species are sold for $40 a pair.
Fires, Gouldians $30 but Blue Faced P/F,Jacarinis, Stars, Painteds O/ Breasts etc are $40
I must admit that when I go to bird sales quite often I will move prices up if the market will stand it.
I sell birds to cover my costs and enable me to pay for birds in the expensive bracket.
A piece of advice, if you need a bird to make up a pair don't worry about paying extra, I have seen too many people lose a breeding season because they wouldn't pay an extra $10 or $15 to match a pair and then have the single bird die.

yes i agree with you E ORIX payen the little extra i once paid $150 each for 2red headed pytillias from birds r us in NSW and also some cordons from them for a mate and was well worth my time and effort freighting them.i did unfortunatly lost a hen but the other hen is now sitten on eggs very tightly. and if it is a hen im willing to pretty much pay the price of a pr plus more of needed specially for the more rarer birds i keep

I have paid up to 90% of a pr price for single hens,As you said a cage full of cock birds arnt going to breed to many young.
And the result was the most young from the four pr i made up that breeding season ever.I guess after 12 months with no hens the cock birds were happy to see the girls.
And as a seller i have refused offers for much more for hens aswell.As some birds the cocks are worth quite alot less by themselves.

my intention each year is to keep 1 cock bird and 2 hens of each species I have.
damned hard though to see birds that are capable of breeding in seperate cages, just in case a birds falls off the perch.
