Hey Dianne, the reason why I asked if the mice stay in the trap is because I have 4 dogs and I am worried if they found the dead mice and ate them the poisen might harm them.

Thanks Pete, I have one of those traps where the mice can get in and can't get out. I have placed it in the avairy and tried using peanut butter and other things that mice seem to like as a bait but I can't seem to get the mice to even look at it. I have taken all the food out and made sure the avairy floor was clean, then the mice just look at the trap as if to say "What in hell is that" and they leave it alone. Any suggestions!!!!

I used a trap like Diane described in my finch aviary with seed in the bottom some years back, and caught my star hen head first, and dead. No there wasn't a food shortage, she was just stupid. Since then I have put them under an icecream container with a hole at ground leval so the birds don't see the seed. They work very well.

Oh your hen must of thought the seed in the trap might taste better. I have caught alot of mice in that trap but I cannot catch any that are actually going into the avairies.

First the ants coopex is safe to spray anywhere.I spray my whole aviaries with the birds in from top to bottom & do not try to avoid birds as a matter of fact am sure all birds get a bit of a spray.Have not had any adverse affects on birds only insects.
Mice are a bit harder to control but without doubt the worst thing to have in a bird cage. If you want to breed birds.I think traps only catch the stupid ones,especially if they can source food (bird seed).Therefore all my seed is kept off ground in a dish to stop any seed to falling on the ground to attract mice.The only food available is food that mice like but they dont eat too much of I prefer " Talon" This is kept in a narrow wooden box with a 20 ml hole each end 20 ml above the ground so poison cannot be dragged outside.These can be placed in the aviary as well as out side.These ideas have worked for me for a long time.

Thanks for your advice I used the Coopex two days ago and I haven't seen an ant in that area since, that hasn't happened for years. With the mouse trap that you mentioned do the mice leave the trap and run away and die?

i used coopex for the first time today, and their were dead bugs everywhere!! 2moro will be the big test to see if there are ants, i sprayed the avairies and trees and back yard so hopefully i stop them for a few months, they were after water so they were making trails to my birds waters which are on the ground.

touching wood, for the 4 years of keeping birds iv had no issues with mice, we do put poison behind our avairies, but have been lucky enough to not ever put traps down. and having a vacant block next door its a mouse paradise with long grass, and on the other side of our house we had an old house knocked down so we expected an influx of vermin. but no mice insight. so i must be extremely lucky or iv done well in discouraging mice coming in the avairies.

I have some supposedly insect eating birds, ( havnt seen them eating any yet ) If I spray Coopex and have a result as good as Misso wont the insect eating birds think there has been a banquet laid on for them?

Just had another thought......have just made a vinegar fly trap too, Im guessing I will have to remove that before spraying?

Place the container in a shallow dish of water, this will prevent the ants from contaminating the food.
