I've spent the last 4 1/2 years living just outside Duaringa and frequently spotted doublebars and the occasional zebra. Cats are probably the problem although wild dogs were a geater issue around Duaringa in my time there. I was a pretty keen bird watcher in my time there and didn't come across any of the other listed. Would have loved to have seen a Diamond or 20 though!!

Sounds like cats and pigs should get equal billing on shoots. Wireless broadband is a problem in many locations outside capital cities, as I explain to the boss when my work does not arrive in Melbourne. And it's not just Telstra. Lot easier if I could just report in on my landline computor instead of having to carry a wireless tablet round and plug it in to download everything. Ah well still prefer to live away from the major rat race centes.

Mate take no heed of those uneducated Mexicans   . . I know where CQ Highlands are . . You know where CQ Highlands are . . And now all on this forum Australia wide, know where CQ Highlands are

Probably be a few Plumheads and or Doublebars around Emerald . . they exist in other parts of CQH . . Plumheads can be quite migratory popping up in areas where they have not been seen for years and then disappearing again whereas Doublies are more sedentary . . When they cleared the brigalow they probably cleared a few finches as well . . though brigalow was not particularly known as popular finch habitat

Yeah you are probably right about the clearing, although you would think that having permanent water with bush still on 2 sides of it and pockets of scrub along the creeks and the Comet river would be enough to attract a few still ? The woman on the next property over feeds the bloody feral cats, over a hundred over there. Costs her $300 a week ! I personally would like to go throw around a ute load of 10/80, it would take years to shoot em out !

Maybe once we populate our aviary it may attract a few finches around the house, we have a small pocket of open bush around the houses/shed complex.

Ah yes I'm with you on the big smoke, I lived in Kununurra for 15 years thenmoved back to Toowoomba in late '98. It drove me batty, then this job came up, 45km from springsure, 100km from emerald ah yes this is the life, lol.

On the telstra thing, unfortunately we have 2 choices, telstra or nothing ! The landline only supports dialup, so they have us over a barrel !
