Sadly they dont enforce the law like they do with dogs , and even if they did most owners would just say "not my cat".
Funny how if a dog maims or kills a sheep or any other livestock its put down but cats can wipe out entire populations of small mammals and birds and yet very little is done.
What to do when the cats hate you....

right im sorry that i hurt your feelings. Well we are not shooting the cats, its natural for the them to hunt and plus its my sisters cat, cant shoot it. Im not fussed about it, i fixed the problem so yeah. PLUS where we live its little difficult to stop them from going outside.

Sorry if I have offended you but this is a finch forum and you will find that most bird lovers have a hatred for cats . I wasnt aware you were a youngin so decisions about the cat really are out of your hands .
Perhaps you could talk to your sister about the cat being secured at night , if nothing pans out then perhaps its best to put off bird keeping till you have your own place to live and can control what animals are kept.
Again please dont be upset .
If you want to understand my point of view google cats in the australian environment and you will get an insight of the damage they do to our native birds and animals.

no its fine really, i like birds and we can't do much to really secure the cats, because the dad cat was a feral and it caused the babies to be feral, which meant the mum had to adapt to be feral, but the mum and the kittens arent majorly feral, they just distance themselves a bit, i didn't realise there was a law against cats outside, cause we live in a pretty much isolated area, laws like that don't apply so much. I am not giving up my birds!! haha i am keeping them, but i have worked it the problem out and if it happens again, i have a plan B.

Good luck with your finches. Don't let the initial set back deter you. Finch keeping is a great hobby and one that can be kept small while you are young and learning and let loose
to grow when you are older and have your own place. Cats are a pain, have had them and admit to maybe not restricting them as much as I should have, and being aware of their faults. Hey we live and learn and that's life.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH... the females in the cage of three are bickering it looks like they will kill each other. I have a plan, if i put the male back with its parents until i get another male, would that be okor would the parents get frustrated or would the females keep fighing? By the way i have a special coloured finch with a red cheek which is female, i forget what you call it, will i have to get a finch of the same species or whatever you call it for that female to mate with it.
