I presume that the bird lives in your area.
I saw some over here under a month ago.
They are quite attractive
But I still like the full fronted Reds(old fashion) but on the other hand I wouldn't reject them either.

I like the red fronted originals best too. But these pink get my vote ahead of the yellow fronts. Are these your birds? Can you tell us about the genetics involved? Thanks heaps for posting the pics.

The "new" pink painted looks to be an entirely different mutation from the "old" one . .

Good news in that there are 2 other mutations that may become established (not to mention the "combinations") . .

Bad news in that the "old" one may well be "gone" completely

I'm a sucker for mutations . . and wouldn't knock either back . . though my elect would be the "old" one

Nice pic! The painted looks like a cinnamon type colour. The colour seems to go through the whole body and doesnt look selective to anyone colour but all colours.

Yes the pics are different. But then the first pic is a male and the 2nd is a female. So this may be the reason. Or then again it might not. Gary do you have - access to - both sex's? The first pic is more pink the 2nd more cinnamon, but then again it could be the light. Anyone who breeds cinnamons knows that the ground colour of the original bird will affect weather the cinnamon is more pink or more brown. Just look at the mushroom shading in quail.

Currently only have a pair of splits which are breeding. The guy I got these off lost all his "coloured" birds but always described them as being "pink". I did see his yellow fawns and they were quite pretty I thought.

I think the one in the picture may be a hen. I believe (pretty confident) it is a receesive mutation. Will post some more pictures when it colours up. In the nest they appear to have "pinkish" coloured eyes which darken after a few days. I have more young in the nest but have been away few a while and don't know if there are any more pinks in the nest. Another week or so though an they should start getting some feathers.

I like the look of thoses painteds,
i have full bodied red and normals and also
yellows.
