I saw the Diamies (pieds) in various articles and for sales sections.

Id have to agree with that too. Its looks very similar to the gouldian mutation in how the colour is presented.

My thinking exactly Bettaman. Also for those who breed Zeb mutations, the black in Zebs does not vanish in dilutes but fades to gray like with these Cubans, and the Gouldian dilutes. That price is scary. Think the Russell Kingston book is more likely.

I,m new to the group and found this great post. I currently live Miami Florida. I breed Cuban olive mutation and Cuban melodious. I was really surprised to see these extremely rare birds in Australian. Do any of you know the breeder which is working with these mutation? I currently have made contact with one individual in Spain which is working to establish these rare mutation. The bird you see in the link to you tube is mine. I will try an post some pics of the cuban melodious mutation and the Cuban olive mutation. If you all have any information regarding these birds please let me know.

So Carlos, is your mutation pied or dilute? Dominant? Recessive? Sex linked? Oh so curious to know. Oh and I love them. Regardless of what they are. And welcome to the forum.

Currently I'm working with the two species of grassquit the Pied Cuban melodious( tiaris canora) and pied, fawn and black eyed yellow Cuban olives( tiaris olivacea). In the Cuban melodious the pied mutation is recessive. In the Cuban olive, the pied and the black eyed yellow are recessive and the fawn is sex linked. I started working with these birds a few years ago and to date I have a good diverse group of birds. I have been in contact with only one other breeder in Spain. He has successfully produced the first lutinos in the Cuban melodious. These birds are completely yellow and white devoid of any pied markings and with red eyes.
He is working very hard to try and get them established. Like you all know mutation are very difficult and challenging to work with and it takes lots of patience and hard work. I will try and post some pics.
