Buzzard - Yes it is a conspiracy, we plan to take over the world!
poitta - ah, a fellow local. Maybe you can point me in the right direction with local info on breeders etc. We started looking today and trying to source a reasonably priced aviary as we get started with a view to bigger and better things as we work out what we are doing! Also read somewhere that the breeze is a real problem with finches and where we are can get windy. Any tips? Thanks.

hi Shanny2, thanks. Haven't decided yet, saw 3-4 varieties we like. At this stage thinking of yellow stars, double barred, painted and european gold (one pair of each, but depends how big an aviary we get). Liked zebras too but were told to keep separate from others so have to make a choice.

Where abouts are you , if you can get the aviary to face the north you should be right. all the inclement weather comes from the west(so watch out buzzard) I have been looking at a company who builds avairies as I am soon to move and want the next lot built , they do smaller cages heres a link http://www.kinsonproducts.com.au/index.php they are in kenwick and they do have other places that you can by them from....pete p.s all those you mention should be fine with the weather here.....

Northern Suburbs, near Joondalup. Would look at facing north but also get strong winds at times, might need to put clear panels on some sections to let sun in and not wind...
shanny, hoping that whoever we buy them from will be able to sex them! after that no idea! ;) only kidding. good point, will have to consider that.

As you will see on the avairy build section, some people use roll down clear plastic blinds for inclement weather. Haven't done it myself but looks like a good design initiative for a new avairy. I have the plastic with wire through it on the roofs of two of my avairys over the wire for extra weather proofing and to protect from currawongs and butcher birds. West Aussies 50% :?: No I don't think we are quite that prolific even if we are a third of the country.
