In the third pic looking at them its a bub on the left dad in the middle and judging by the beak colour the mum as its a grey/black compared to babies yellow. what to do is try and get a female for the old boy. but there should be aggression from dad if there is no girl in there.....even a young hen for the youngster might be the better bet and you can account for the age of him...plus another way to check if there are eggs in the nest would be a give away.....pete

Thanks Buzz least , kinda good to know Im not the only one to have made this sort of mistake . Thinking back to when I took the babies out he did squark for days maybe even weeks after which he had not done with previous clutches.
Feel bad now for breaking up the pair hopefully it can be fixed so the old boy has a gal pal again tomorrow.

Buy one or two hens or try and swap one for a hen.
You are not the first to sell one of a breeding pair by mistake it can be easily done.
Put rings on your breeding stock for two reasons.
1 you know which are parents and which are young(unrung).
2 list the number or colour and date in a bird book and you will have a reference of what age the birds are.
Keep the young cockbird as you know how old it is and try and match it with a bird of similar age.
If you can only get an older hen the unfortunately you may need to match your older bird.
I hope you can locate a hen for this season.

Not looking good Eorix , once again hens are in short supply , don't think there will be any bubs this year ...anyhoo will keep ringing around so far have covered Dubbo to Mudgee and Orange by phone guess we try Bathurst next .
Dont know what the go is with Orana Avi Society seems they have all dropped of the planet . Still need a O/Breast hen but somehow because this is my stupid mistake it feels worse and feels more urgent to be fixed .
Fingers crossed.
