A nice surprise!

So far one nest of 6 healthy chicks about 6 days old Other nest the babies hathced 2 eggs left but parents didnt feed and they died- 2 nest for this to happen. They are young pairs so I am being patient with them. Im really hoping these 6 go well!!!

The remaining 5 are doing really well! Eyes are opening and strating to get pinfeathers. very full crops this morning too! One of my other pairs are on 6 eggs. My African fires I believe have a nest somewhere too as I only ever see one at a time

Early this year I aquired a pair of Red Faced Pytilia's. Since then they have had several nests without a fertile egg being produced.
Last week seeing them both sitting on the perch together I thought thats it, when I get a chance I would catch them up and retire them to my big flight.
I also checked their normal nesting areas but found nothing.
Would you believe one week later as I walked past their aviary here was Mum & Dad and three fully feathered young ones.
So they have earned their stay in their current aviary and I was quite pleased about the result.

My wish list has Red Face Pytillas first on the list ...congrats on the bubs

Well done Eorix-Yes! they never cease to amaze,surprise and frustrate me all at the same time! Never thought about the red faces. ARe they fairly placid or can they be a bit agro. I know the pytilla family are very insectivourous. Might be a year or 2 down the track once I have a few more flights up Good luck with future clutches!!

They didn't get much as they are in an aviary set up for a group of Napoleon Weavers. As the Weavers are not in colour as yet nothing special was fed except for heaps of Bush Fly Maggots and a few Mealworms, there are a young pair of Red F Parrot Finches and a pair of Cordons in there that have just fledged 4 chicks
It is a reasonable size aviary 20ft(6m)x 20ft(6m) holding 10 birds plus young.
Kimberley Breeder,the Red Faced Pytilias are very very placid and I have not seen any aggression with those or the ordinary Red Winged.
