Sorry to hear about your quail chicks. We have eggs due to hatch any day now, been deliberating what to do re the male. He has been spending lots of time near the hen. Hard to picture him killing but then that is nature.
Bushranger, the problem we have is not between the Double Bras

but between then and other birds. Though they have toned down lately I have to admit. Not sure where they roost these days. Wasn't aware of the 1/3 pair preference, but will certainly keep that in mind from now on. other birds are one pair of each, other than the 6 (as yet unpaired) gouldians.
We are finding all of this fascinating, but can't believe how much we have to learn. I am sure in ways it never really stops!
