Am currently medicating a 5 week old quarrion with anti biotics Ive found mixing some glucose in with the antibiotics helps ... today is the first day in 8 days she has had 3 normal feeds of formula she is kept going by the glucose and apple baby food gotta tell you she is one sticky and stiff feathered bird after all the reluctant feeds she has fought me over but she is on the mend ...Avian vets = $$$$ but what would we do without them .
So glad your sun conure is picking up , heres hoping they both do well after they finish their antibiotics .

Well, the antibiotics finished about 2 days ago and it appears to me that the bird is turning again. There is just something about the eyes. He may have had enough of the small cage that he's been in, I had to keep him in there to make it easier to admisinister the medication twice a day. After his (3rd) injection tomorrow I may put him back in the aviary to see how he goes.
To make the whole saga even more frustating the hen has abbandoned the eggs. Oh well, another unproductive season.

And I don;t suppose you had a suitable foster parent bird handy either? Not ideal, I know but just sometimes when they are less common types.

Bugger , I know how it feels to lose a entire season , I think it comes under the heading Sxxt happens ...it happens to me a lot with the finches ....hey just wondering if you've ever given your conures mango ? Gave mine a mango cheek today , it was down to the skin in no time I know they love their fruit but wow they adore mangos.

I actually bought some magoes for them today. I'll have to try and hide them from my daughter though. I've given them mangos in the past so I lnow they eat them up.

Unfortunetly I didn't have another pair to put the eggs under.

Well, another check up at the vet today. It was decided that another injection was not required, and all medication will be stopped immediately. When the weather clears up he will go back into the aviary with the hen. I will keep a very close eye on him and hopefully he won't go backwards, infact I want him to ''go forth and multiply''.

Thats really good news B/G . So do you have any idea what caused him to go down hill ?

Glad to hear he is well. Hope next year they have a successful breeding season for you.

That's the problem, I don't know what caused it so I can't prevent it from happening again. I have made subtle changes to the diet, where I am now not going to have seed available all the time. I am going to offer pellets constantly, with seed fed as a treat some afternoons and vegetables with some fruit fed in the morning. I have started this straight away with this bird but will wait for the young to be weaned before I complete the change across the bird with my other conures.

Yes Im thinking the same way with the conures , they seem to be very needy in terms of fresh fruits and vegs , 1 pair eats more than 9 other pairs combined ...and they will empty a full hopper to pick out just a few seeds .
My point at least with the pellets you have all dietary needs covered and all else is a bonus. Let us know how it goes.
