Cheers Dano, I may be being overly cautious, but I'd be concerned that using hot water might denature the active ingredient.
I've phoned Vetafarm to check and am waiting on a reply by email. Will probably hear back sometime tomorrow.

No probs mate, Dr. Tony told me that himself! Very warm water does not damage or change the mix because I thought the same thing.

ps. Just noticed where you live - I used to play pool for Fastbreak and many games in the EDPL at The Pool Room Ferntree Gully!

Thanks for your replies and help...Danny can you expand on what products you use for the nasties you identified and what order/length of time for each medication...thanks, Paul :notsure:
Hi Paul, here you go and sorry, I can't publically give dose rates as I am not a Vet. This is what I do, but everyone's birds are different so you need to work out what is right for your situation.

Mites & lice - Avian Insect Liquidator - Vetafarm - Immediately
Dehydration & stress - Spark Liquid - Vetafarm - 2 days
Protozoal - . Turbosole - Aust. Pigeon Company - 7 days
Air-sac mite - S76 - Dr Rob Marshall Bird Health - 2 days - follow up 2 weeks later
Worms - Wormout Gel - Vetafarm - 2 days - follow up 2 weeks later
Gut infections, diarrhea – Probotic - 4 - 7 days
General Health – Multivite - Passwell - ad lib
General Health – DufoPlus and Ioford NF - Dr Rob Marshall Bird Health - 2 days every other week

During quarantine the birds are fed a basic Finch Mix, Greens & Grains, Tonic Seed Mix, crumbles plus Polly's Calcium Mix. I do not give them high protein foods like egg & biscuit; live food or soaked seed, milk seed etc. The last thing I want to do is stimulate breeding conditions during quarantine.

First Aid
Sick Birds - Poly-Aid Plus - Vetafarm
Antibiotic - Triple C - Vetafarm

Jay, I buy it for about $20 for 100ml which lasts quite a while.

Thanks Dan..your help is greatly appreciated. I've been out of birds for 7 years, and it's amazing the growth in products aimed at erradicating wormes, mite, etc has developed in that time...I'll do some research on the products you use and use that as the basis for my own program...but many thanks for your help..cheers, Paul

Well, I heard back from Vetafarm today:
"The combination Oxytetracycline and Praziquantel do not dissolve too well in water and adding warm water and shaking will help to disperse the product. Worst case scenario, adding the product to boiling water by mistake (which will cool quite rapidly) will not have any adverse effects on the product. Problems will arise if the product is maintained at high temperature for long periods of time."

Not that I ever doubted you Dano. ;)

Don't know if you guys get Equimax oral out there. My vet and fellow finch breeder recommended it to me as a wormer for my birds (its actually for horses and he gave me the correct dosage and strength, so you would have to go via a vet for it). Great stuff. Liquid and can be given with drinking water. Used during breeding season etc with no adverse affects. Also covers all worm types incl. tapeworm.
I give it for two consecutive days and repeat after 14 days and do so every 3 -4 months.

For me at present just dose moxidectin plus. And then 4 days after moxi i use baycox for coccidiosis. I get both from auspigeonco. I keep them for 1 month in quarantine cage.

Does anyone else here use baycox? i think im one of the only ones. Dont hear anyone else talk about it.
