On the Feathered Flyer in the UK new members posts are moderated until they are sussed by Admin, and you can't become a full member without filling in your profile.
Can't understand why people are shy of where they come from...it helps others answer questions if you are asking about suppliers, bird fairs etc. They're not asking for the street and house number for Gods sake...just a general location or city.
On other forums I've seen people asking if their birds will be ok in winter temperatures...but don't state if they come from Florida or the South Pole.

Location is definately usefull in answering and asking questions, cause what is relavent half way up the W.A. coast where I am would be very different to what applies to those of you down on the south east of the country. Just to site an example. But yes some of us are a little shy of giving too many details. Particularly when a family experience of being too trusting resulted in the theft of hundreds of $ of line bred stock and years of work some years back. (Not me personally) But seeing the heart break it caused makes one careful.

There have been some major thefts in the UK over the last few years...all sensible breeders take major precautions. When selling birds in the past to comparative strangers I've insisted that they call me on a landline number and not mobile so they are traceable. When calling to collect birds I always insisted on meeting in a local pub car park...gives me a chance to see what they look like and get their car reg.number.Shame it has to be this way but other genuine breeders realise that it's sensible and don't take offence.
As I said before just a general region gives a clue to local conditions without divulging too much.

Precautions are a pain...but I sleep nights.

Hi Paul, its sad that the world has come to this, there are plenty of low life here as well making money on peoples hobby and a lot of them cannot replace them when stolen
