Agree with everything Dano said but 2 months earlier. I already have a couple of pairs set up and laying. They were all separated a fortnight ago but I had a few hens laying eggs on the floor and ready to go so I thought what the heck. The rest of them will be paired off mid january. Young on the perch by early feb, 3 clutches done and separated again before winter.

Thanks for those replies. Can't do the austerity diet yet as have couple of bird still finishing their moult. Sounds like we could get away with just separating the sexes for a shor time then? though would still require an additional aviary... Might just leave them together and see what happens, let nature take its own course. Hens beak not coloured up yet anyway. Only one was getting darker but have not had time to spend having a closer look. I wouldn't go with the heaters etc myself.
I think we will wait another 2-3 weeks for molting birds, then introduce the austerity diet for a few weeks. Will need to look over the posts again to work out at what point we pair off the YH...
