soaking the floor is a no no as it will increase the humidty in the avairy quite alot. yes u can still have a sprinkler goen on slowwen its even over here in WA. havent heard about the palm frond trick but the carpet idea sounds good

Yeah, I probably should have mentioned I did that in an aviary that had a paving floor.

That's why the kids are coming up to us for Christmas. We are supposed to be a few degrees cooler than the city. And mother never leaves town over the Christmas hols. My avairys are on a twice a day watering timer so the bowls will be flushed and nice cool drinking water supplied, also under a big shady lilac tree. Mother puts the overhead sprinklers on in the worst part of the day. One of the first things Dad did when he built the avairys was install overhead sprinklers. Friend of mine in the city has shade cloth "faulse ceiling" over her avairys. Up in summer down in winter about 20cm above the roof of the avairy, causes shade and a breeze tunnel.

Bit bodgy but I cover the suspended aviary with marine ply , like a second roof, was meant to be temp but it is doing a good job so is staying put . The big aviary has insulated walls ans roof in the back half and the gravel gets a soaking for the birds to lay in , which they do and the middle size aviary is under the back extension so has 2 roofs and opening the garage door allows cooler air from the garage to waft in on the birds .

Just wondering if anyone thinks it would hurt the birds if a fan was used to circulate air around an aviary ....from the outside of course .

I reckon it would be ok as long as its not too close that the birds have to hang on to the perch for dear life
I have seen those fans that have no moving blades, ideal for an aviary and they could probably be put inside. Bit expensive though.

Bladeless fans ..what will they think of next ? Its only for the aviary under the back deck really the other 2 have a fair breeze around them , just a bit still where they are , fan will only be on low enough to get a bit of movement .... warming up here but only knocks you getting in and out of car ....fingers crossed it stays like this .

I saw another interesting one at Bunnings yesterday.... A mist fan... Basically it's a fan that also blows out mist...

Wow, will have to check that one out. Is it solar powered by any chance?? that would make it perfect! ;) We got a couple of cheap picnic gazebos yesterday, on special at $29, to put ovet the aviaries. Bunnings, of course!

Bunnings had the mist fan kits in their last junk mail at $39.00. Went in the same day to Bunnings Joondalup, shelves empty, will try another store today.
