Was talking to the guys at Camsal (local bird shop) yesterday, he told me someone he knows had five foot of water through their house and aviaries, the breeder just opened the aviary doors and let the birds go. Poor guy.
E Orix....you mentioned in another post a while back that the River Murray flows at the back of your place, have you been given any information to if/when any water levels from Queensland will reach you?

Food is getting through again to most areas . Mum was told she could have 1 loaf of bread , she declined as people with kids would need it more .
She still cannot get in touch with 2 of her sisters that were affected by the flood.
Small towns will be getting food through soon .
Water is unfit for drinking , any one with an open wound no matter how small is urged to get an injection . Sewerage has contaminated all the water .
The Qld minister broke down on her tour of devastated areas .
Good old Queen Lizzy has donated money to those affected .
Im sure Aussies will dig deep to help out , I feel a good old fashioned telathon coming on.
My heart goes out to those who lost pets ( devastating ) but it is nothing compared to those who lost family .

Ive just been out shopping for stuff to put in shoeboxes to go to Qld. On Facebook there is a group who in a joint effort with the Rotary club in Campbeltown SA are going send the shoeboxes up there.
There are some people asking about a Victorian drop off point, so this thing could go national seeing as the Rotary Club are involved.

On another note I think that Anna Bligh, the Qld Premier is doing an excellent job, I think Julia Gillard will have to take a good grip on her PM title, cos I think Ms Bligh could take it from her.

The NT government tipped in Five hundred Thousand dollars today and have offered public servants leave with pay if they wish to go and help with the clean up in Qld.Very hard to undestand the scale of destruction thats occured over there.Hopefully everybody will dig deep when the time comes.

Julia arrived dressed like she was going to a grand opening , Ms Bligh arrived in jeans looking like she would jump in and lend a hand ...yes Ms Gillard needs to be lifting her game on this one , it could make or break her politically.

I agree 100% with regard how the Qld premier handled herself she did herself proud.
As for our National leader she was totally at sea,but then thats seems normal for her.
Why oh why did the party choose her.
The other point. While the Murray River is at our back fence we will not be effected as we are well north of any flows from the Murrumbidgee River
Mind you it is running very very high and some of the catchments had 120mm overnight. We are still possibly 6 m higher than the current level.
If we get flooded then Albury/Wodonga would be submerged with 100,000 people homeless.
I am still having trouble comprehending the Qld flood.I doubt if I would be as calm as they seem to be.

How about you Deb? Your town in the way of the water?

They seem to have the laid back Australian approach in abundance at the moment.

Nyngan will be buggered if it hits them all at once ...

Apparently JA came through relatively unscathed - just his canary room got a bit wet!
