Interesting alright . .

Federal authorities disbanded NEBRS in 2002 . . Then said that it was never 'officially' abandoned

Seemingly neverending meetings of agroup called EBAG to resolve the situation

Situation never really resolved . . and is now in the 'too hard basket' or hiding in a cave somewhere waiting to emerge to face an even bigger mess when it does

When NEBRs was disbanded we were still warned to keep records of where we bought & sold exotic birds, but no-one listened.
Now with the reverse onus of proof- where we have to prove that every exotic bird we house has been legally obtained ( if challenged by authorities)- they don't have to prove it was illegally obtained- they can really prosecute just about anyone they want- except for the parrots arising from the few legal imports in the early 1990s.

In theory,the way the legislation is currently worded, every lovebird, conure, quaker, asiatic parrot, african parrot, foreign finch etc has not been ratified as legally obtained unless you happen to have a copy of a signed receipt from pre-importation ban days that you bought the birds from a boat at the dock or that your birds are derived from such stock.

Of course, they are not going to bother with people who keep the more common species, but those who draw undue attention to themselves are really on a hiding to nothing. The only saviour is the ineptitude of the government departments involved, who seem to always find a way to stuff up their prosecutions, as recent events have shown!!

Hehe deb when i grow up i want 100 acres with with aviaries with whip birds regeant bowerbirds a lotsa finches!
