Well I've heard the odd Lorikeet likes a tipple but apparently the story about elephants enjoying fermented marula fruit is a myth.

I buy cattle mineral salt lick blocks. They are about 5kgs each from memory.Use a very old hand saw and axe to cut them to size and throw them on the aviary floor for your birds in the sheltered area,Keep them off the steel as salt will rust the metal. There are also many commercial mineral blocks available.

With regards to the lorikeets and fermented fruit, i have seen this on Magnetic Island. The Rainbows would get stuck into rotten mangoes and would get very tipsy. They would roll about on the ground play fighting and having a great time. They seemed to be enjoying themselves.

looks like salt only.
These are not the ones I use As I am not sure what brand they are without going to the supplier.but a example of some of the ingredients available in some blocks.

Ive asked the seller for more information ...it is Himalayan Rock salt and has 84 minerals , they say in the website it is for birds , but we all know they will say anything .

Will it hurt to try it do you think ? Might see if I can find a breakdown of minerals in cattle licks and compare ....

Providing it doesn't contain urea it should be fine. If the block is sold as "Dry Feed Block" it contains ruminants, unless you have birds with multiple stomachs that is!!!
