I think Hunter Finch Club has just adopted the Pictorella as their native to try and conserve in Aviculture. :)

Good on ya Gomer.I bailed out of Pictas, i had a really good run then struggled for the next 12 months. They dont like any competion around the live food tray and are easily bullied out of there.I used termites and those little mealies as they generally just chew the heads off the large mealies. They seem to like more calcium than other finches and ive spotted them actively seeking out cuttlefish in the avairy. In a largish avairy the young ones are hopeless and repeatedly hit the wire hard enough to make me cringe.I felt i was missing something with Pictas as far as diet goes,on the odd occasion when i put whole seeding grasses in they spent more time eating the dirt than the seeds. In one instance they got stuck into some black smelly mud that was attached to a clump of grass then spent the next half hour trying to spit the goop out, obviously there was something in there that they were keen on.I produced about 80% hens for some reason.
