A mouse proof aviary is clearly the answer, but I've never achieved this utopia! I've tried traps and many different baits including peanut butter, etc, etc... Our local general store put me onto Rodex B (green pellets) and the mice prefer it to bird seed. I put a margarine container of Rodex B (lid on with a small mouse accessible hole) inside an old small cage which is placed inside of each aviary. Works brilliantly. I find the odd dead mouse every now and again but have not seen a live one for over a year.

My aviaries are, dare I say it mouse proof. 6mm wire throughout, 800 deep concrete footings to flight area, full slab to shelter, shelter fully lined, roof corrugations filled. Prevention is better (and cheaper in the long term) than cure. You only need one bad season caused by mouse disturbances and it will cost plenty of cash. Probably the most important thing is not to attract them in the first place. A well designed feed station that is inaccessible to mice and keeps the seed husks off the floor helps and also keep water above the floor where mice can't get to it. If the mice don't get a free meal ticket, even if they do get access inside the aviary, the population will never get out of hand. I feel lining the shelter is also important so mice can't climb up the walls and get into the nesting areas.

One word answer my friend - RATBLITZ. An old bait that has been sorely missed has been re-released.
Is in biscuit crumb so care needs to be taken. No affiliation to the company just know it works like a charm!!!

Use it outside the aviary as I know of a case where an entire softbill collection in Bendigo was decimated by them eating insects which had been in the poison (same for any poison used I guess)

Grab some plastic pipe - 2 long lengths and a T-junction with screw cap and attach outside your aviary - or near where us suspect they are getting in.........unscew cap and add poison......if worried about spread of poison simply place a quantity of sand in the 2 lengths of tubing attached to the t-junction - they'll wipe their feet for u on the way out!!!

If having troule attracting them to the bait station head to the brewing shop and grab some Aniseed essence - NOTHING can resist it!!!

Happy Hunting as them damn meeces are a constant problem!!

Someone posted this link on a previous thread on mice. http://www.frugal-living-freedom.com/mouse-traps.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Seems like a good, simple trap.
