Gouldians can be passive or aggressive depending on the time of year. Mine are 4 hens/3 cocks in their own avairy 2m L x 1.8m W x 1.8m H and they are fine unless someone lands on someone elses nest, then they swing by whatever the offended party gets hold of. When I had them in the bigger avairy with other finches, not problem, but breeding was not happening.
Also I have just taken my young Cuban away from his/her parents as the yellow is looking a bit bright for a hen, and not the slightest bit of aggression has been shown by this pair to either their young, my gouldians, my canaries or any other bird.
I concur that the breeding cages are the right size for one pair only. My Bengos and Zebs are kept in rather more heavily populated an avairy than any other types, but with no nests. When I want to breed them I move them to a breeding situation with nest.
