The water IS clean and I only use bore water not water from the tap.

Think you'll find that Spirulina is derived from a blue-green algae whereas the one that appears in water bowls is just good ole common everyday green algae.
Have, like EOrix heard that a little of this guy can be beneficial - in aerating the water a little - after all it is still a plant!!
However, it can replicate very quickly and in warm hot aviaries even down here it can be a pain at time.........but all thing in moderation!!!
Mind you have heard some lazy sods saying the same "it aerates the water" and when you look at the bowl it is hard to tell where the water starts and the algae finishes!!! However, I'm sure there's no-one here that allows it to resemble the red dawn from War of the Worlds!!!!!
