I use a mix of boxs, but mostly Budgie boxs. I also put a little nesting material in the bottom, as some birds make great nests and some add nothing. Do not take my boxs out, accept to clean, and find the birds have the good sence to stop when the weather is inappropriate.

Notice that conditions are quite varied accross Australia. So when do Perth breeders put boxes in and take them out. Tht's assuming they don't leave them in all year round like Finchbreeder does further north of us.

All year round for me redwing as my diamonds roost in them .
The rest I leave to the colony to decide , like finch breeder suggested they tend to know whats best for themselves .
Have started to scale back greens and livefood and my colony has gotten the hint that its holiday time
And even taking out the boxes wont necessarily garauntee they will take a spell .
They will find somewhere to nest if determined enough .
