Hi there Finchman I have a friend that is starting with WH Nuns. Can you let me know what type of nests they build and what nesting material you use for them as he has had no luck with them since hes had them. And yes they are pairs in a seperate aviary. And do you feed corn as well to them? And any live food ? Thanks Kosy

Hi Kosy,
White headed nuns are down on eggs again ,I seen the nest yesterday 4 fertile eggs, so see how we go .
I have 3 pair together they nest about 1-1.5 mtrs above the ground using grass and building their own nest in the tea tree.
I dont feed them any live feed ,I have never tried.I do give them sprouted seen, corn, finch mix and plain red pannicum seed on its own.
The more green seed heads you can give them the better they will go.Good luck to your friend.

I aquired 6 birds just over 2 years, they fiddled around for nearly 18months fledged a few but nothing to write about.
Then they decided to breed and they have done very well since. The numbers are well up and they haven't stopped even with the cold weather.
Unlike my other birds I haven't tried to slow their breeding up as they seem to be going well.
Like finchman, no live food but soaked seed and plenty of it .This diet suits them and also my Tri Nuns.
The one thing about Nuns is that they love long growing grass, its main benefit I can see is that the rough grass tends to keep the Nuns feet and legs clean of scale.
