Their probably the most nicest pretty looking mutation out there but one of the most expensive and hardest to look after. I really want some but I have to consider the consequences of what might happen if I have a fatality and means 350 to 400 dollars goes down the drain. Do you guys think this or is it just me ??

Hi Finchman101. I would visit local breeders in your area and ask as many questions as possible. If you are interested I know a breeder of blues in your area and I can give you his contact details if interested, just pm me.

You have a specialist Gouldian breeder in your town
If you don't already know him let me know and I will contact him to see if he will allow me to give you his name and phone number.

I'm really excited now, I've gotten onto a blue breeder in town but will have to wait until December. Do use think its best to get 1 split blue and 1 blue to breed together so I know that all babies arre blue or split to blue or get 2 split blues. Or yet again to get 2 blues. I'm just worried cause the blues cost 350 each and the splits are half that price, so I'm just wondering what's best to get

1 Split x 1 coloured bird gives best results. Hopefully a good breeder will select healthy bloodlines for you already.
1 normal x 1 coloured gives best quality and will breed nice splits for next year.

General consensus is never breed blue x blue

You could buy 2 x blues, 2 x splits or swap the 1 split for a normal, say yellowback that way next year you can have yellows/dilutes split for blue plus chances of blues with your colour x split pair.

Split x split matings and you lose any clarity of which babies will be split for blue or normal, you may produce a blue but you cannot sell splits young as 'splits themselves. (They are possible split blue or 50% chance)

Thanks
The guy I have gotten on to has been breeding very good lines of birds of every mutation in gouldian for many many years and I'm very trusting that he will give me good quality birds. I'm guessing you breed blues as well. Is 300 to 350 dollars a bird a good deal ??
