Over the many years that Dad kept cockatiels with finches, I never saw any aggression from the cockatiels towards them, finches kept at various times included Cubans, javas, Gouldians, Jacarinis, Zebras, Canaries, Chestnut breasted, yellow rumps, etc.

As spoton said the problem was that when the cockatiels were spooked they would upset everything else in the aviary. If this happened at night the finches would leave the nest and you would lose the young.

He bred them both quite easily nesting in bird wire cylinders hung up near the top of the aviary, probably about 1 metre back from the edge of the shelter section . They built the nests from grasses. They were much the same – I think they are both underrated.

Don't keep both species together because they will hybridise.

no ..they are also long lived. In the end they were geriatric - would still lay eggs but were always infertile. Swapped them for young zebra's at the time.

Why? The birds were old at the time and well past breeding age. They were well over 10 years and useless for breeding! They could have died at any time and were basically worthless!

When coming to swap birds Nathan, value of the birds don't always come into the equation. If I'm looking for a pair of strawberries and you wanted a pair of red siskins and I swapped with you that doesn't mean that I got ripped off, we both in the end got what we wanted. Some people would ask for the difference in price and if both parties agree on any of these terms well that's called win win situation.

Ok but I dont no y u would swap a $120 yellow rump for a $14 zebra That's not a little bit of difference it's huge
