It's a bit like that in a lot of clubs , regardless of the interest they are involved with, especially in country towns where you need to live there for 20 years before your local. I joined a fishing club as a teen when I first moved here 21 years ago, went to 3 meeting where they would have their normal minutes ect, then adjurn to the bar for the remainder, outing dates ect, & of coarse I couldn't go because none of them would tell you when they were on. Even the next club I joined was a little the same, but had 2 factions, those born here, & those who had moved here (even 20 or 30 years after the fact mind you). Even to the point of getting a decent fishing spot out of them, the "loacals would guard their favourite spots like they were gold, where as the "new locals" would tell you when & where.

I am sorry but I can't excuse the committees for being rude, inefficient and down right unprofessional.
Over the years I have been President of three society/bird clubs.city and country.
I made sure all new people were welcome,we had a decent monthly Journal which is so important.
New members are always needed and they must be kept informed. When someone takes on a
committee position they are responsible to do their tasks, maybe in the smaller clubs people are
talked into taking on a position but once agreed to do it they must assist and perform.
The smaller clubs are so important to the system and must assist and inform.
A strong President should make sure every one is treated as an equal and new members helped all the way.
Off my soap box now.

I recently joined the local society down here - first meeting I was a visitor, second meeting I joined and they asked me to be their secretary. Everyone is really helpful and friendly, and only about 45 members. I think you are just having some bad luck Deb!

Hubby had same experience as Bushranger in same club. Went to one meeting, totally ignored, no one ackowledged him or made him welcome, encouraged him to join or anything. Too busy fighting with each other!!!! As someone said earlier, people running these clubs are interested in birds but often have no idea how to run a business which is essentially what it is!
