Did u keep finches then?

Shore did Nathan started keeping birds when I was five and I’m now forty nine. S#@t that sounds old

I started keeping birds when I was 6 an now I'm 14, what was you're first ever bird an what types if finches do you keep ?

We were allowed(?) to trap birds in those days and would ride horses or bikes, depending on the destination, up to 20 miles (30km) each way with our traps on our backs like schoolbags. We made all of our own traps from cut up cheese boxes or fruit cases and case wire.

Zebras and Doublebars were most common and could be sold to a dealer in Brisbane for 10/- per dozen (10 pence . . about 8 cents ea.). They were sent by train and birds which could not be obtained locally were sent from Brisbane by train with surprisingly few deaths.

We were lucky to have lived in those times . . but not because of the cheap prices

I worked as a paper delivery boy for 2.5 hours daily from Monday to Saturday for the princely sum of 15/- ($1.50) per week, and on Sundays getting 3 farthings per paper sold
( there were no farthing coins in circulation but the term was still in use and this translated into 9 pence per dozen)
