Deb,

One way to get them to eat more foods is to have them hanging from the wire high up at the front of the aviary. I have had several take food items that they otherwise ignored when offered in a dish. In the wild they get their food hanging from branches not on the ground or placed in a food bowl! Still, they can be conservative little so & sos.

Di,
There are several papers about the role of pollen in some of Darwin's finches. Whether this translates to waxbills I don't know.

Deb,

I would avoid feeding a lot of Orange or other fruit high in Vit C, Strawberries, Paw Paw ect. Lorikeets don't require diets high in Iron, Vit A & C enhance Iron uptake. Would not stop feeding altogether, I still feed Orange to mine once or twice a week when in season, but wouldn't make it a daily thing. Probably doesn't hurt, but I would rather not risk it.

Thanks VR1 . Oranges are a once a week maybe thing . Got the Purples eating corn so yay for that .

Yes positioning the food in different places does work , Ive found that out with the grass parrots .

Hevent given them the pollen yet , wasn't sure of its freshness after a second taste ,I have some coming from Mudgee Honey Haven when the kids come over next .

Slowly getting them off the apple diet . Today had some success with Paw Paw and they are nibbling at my bird bread which has carrot in it .
