Only trouble I have with them is fighting them off when I water the plants in the aviary or Im washing down the walls ...The little buggers looove water and not just a quick dip but a good soaking .
Yes even for a little bird they are messy so extra cleaning is needed however they do seem to only squirt in the same 3 places so its not like the entire aviary looks like the aftermath of the Seagull scene in the movie High Anxiety ...(Mel Brooks).

Lol jay don't worry if I had known I woulda got them before scarlets a elegants. None the less I'm going to try a breed these lot a see how they go. My scarlet cock is pretty fearless a tame but the elegants are flighty as! Scarlet hens ok aswell. Maybe the elegants could make room
Ahwell I will give them a fair go first

Yep, sounds like they're doing their "thang".........mine worked the box for a few weeks......hen started to look "eggy" (ie, sorta standing with legs wider apart than normal) about May/June...etc, etc.......sitting on 4 eggs at the mo, started laying 1st week of July. Started laying 1st week of Sept last year.
As I notice these things I re-commenced daily wet mix. I'll continue this right through til weaning of the young and probably conitnue as they double clutched last season. During the hot months I make my wet mix up in ice cubes.....stays fresher.
The Littles are courting madly inside in quarantine

.......still havent finished their new accomodation.......have to get cracking......BTW.....saw one of my pairs do their "thang" upside down this morning!

Mick,
Stick that nest box in the quarantine cage- don't waste time waiting til you finish the aviary.
Then again, you may need to build a bigger one or extra one to house the young!
