A male Pintail Whydah will try and display to anything not just Pintail hens.Even young uncoloured young males will try and display.
Their size is in relation to the size of their hoste specie which is the Saint Helena Waxbill
A male in full colour displaying to a hen is a terrific site.

I saw them wild in Kenya recently and was also surprised how small they are. I've seen many photos and videos over the years but for some reason always thought they'd be larger, like a cut throat or a Java.toothlessjaws wrote: 23 Aug 2011, 21:56 i saw these guys in france. had no idea they were so small. i always expected them to be sparrow sized. totally dug them ever since.
