The best way to keep them war during winter would be to have plastic sheets/ café blinds or poly carb which you place over the wire- make sure all products are clear as this still lets Sun through. Full closed roof would be also required. Some people use heat lamps/ heat box this allows birds during the colder months to get access to some heat. I have to resort to a heat lamp this year but only for my fire finches. Oil seeds are great for a little bit of extra fat during winter(canola,linseed,nygar just to name a few). If your considering getting gouldians the best time to get them would he around Dec. As for prevention of airsac mites quarantine and moxydectin are probably the best. If you read the topics in Aviaries and cages there are numerous designs there with pics too. There are also many helpful ideas in the Housing section. Hopefully there is something you can adapt to suit your particular situation.

We in the street can not contain Gouldian even in summer, too cold. Reproduce well at home.
