Spent ages trying to get a mate for my split boy then gave up and got him a normal mate from Pete at the BBQ. Now he is happy.

A lot of pied on that youngun wildbill. Unfortunately I think the price has come down to be almost the same as normals since this thread started.
And I just noted Tiaris' comment from 2011 (below) which I'd not understood before - now I realise why Ruddie Roosters never look as pied as the hens!

news is better - there are 6 or 7 young. here's 5 in the photo plus either the one above or 2.
really like these fire finches pied or not!

7 is an exceptional clutch. 5 is my PB for Ruddies over many clutches.
