My very unscientific mix is -
2 hard boiled eggs (overboiled)
2-3 heap teaspoon of Passwells Soft food mix
2-3 finely crushed milk arrowroot biscuits
1/2 cup of peas and corn (I use the frozen ones)
I take the egg shells and microwave for 2 minutes on high then crush.
Mix all together (by mashing with fork or food processor)
Add water to make it a bit crumbly (not much water is needed).
I then put it in my ice cube tray and put in freezer.
I then take the frozen cubes and put straight in the aviary.
I find one-cube per day per breeding pair is about right.
By the way I use the Passwells soft food mix because I bought some and gave to the birds mixed with some water but they didn't eat it. So I have a whole packet to get rid off, so I use it in this mix. As I said its pretty unscientific.

Trial and error basically.
Note the egg mix goes off quite quickly. It is strongly recommended to put in the morning and to remove any leftovers in the afternoon. I do not have that luxury as I work. So, during weekdays I put in the morning and replace next morning. Sometimes I have left overs but, so far, has not caused any problems. But that may be by good luck.
So depending on type of bird, activity etc will determine the quantity.
Note, I have found that birds do not instantly go for new food. So you do need to persevere.

I have more luck putting a hard boiled egg in the aviary with madiera cake or bird bread separate .
The egg + biscuit is never touched yet all I have left from the boiled egg is the shell ...the egg is cut in halfs or quarters depending on the size of the bird.

Accept that some days you are the pigeon, and some days you are the statue.

If you're after a half decent dry commercial mix you won't go past Paswells Egg n' Biscuit - used to be called Canary Starter.
To be honest many of the others just don't cut it so a cheap item may not be all that much chop.........tried and true Paswells/Wombaroo.
No affiliation with company either!!!!

I decided to give Paswells Egg and Biscuit a go. Bought 20 kilo bag. Just been too hot to bake egg food for the birds. Tho I still bake color egg food for red factors. Also mush up hard boiled egg for them.
Anyone else using Paswells Egg and Biscuit?
What do you like most about it Fincho162?

Day 3, using Paswells Egg and Biscuit. All the birds smashed the stuff. Canaries, Scarlett's, Gouldians, Opalines, Bourkes,Princess Parrots, to name a few. So far seems to be another great product of Passwells. I still hard boil eggs, mash up with fork and give to birds daily. Regards.
Also, blue faced parrot finches, pied red faced parrot finches, red faced parrot finches, tricoloured parrot finches, smashed it as well.

Have been taking a cup of Paswells egg and biscuit, adding little water to make like a crumble, and adding two pre mashed up hard boiled eggs. All birds are devouring the stuff. By the time I give to the bird, many of the others have finished!
Regards.
