Natural Immunity

This is exactly how evolution works. The only ones in the bubonic plague who survived were the ones where some kind of immunity or resistance, who then were left to keep the species going. Humans and every other animal species have gone through periods of boom or bust where the populations have either been decimated or become extinct. Those who survive pass on the antibodies and genes that help to prevent that disease affecting the next generation. Hence the importance of breastfeeding babies (any species) to give them a good start. Of course medication is important, especially immunization, but over medication, (antibiotics etc.) can severely compromise the natural immunity response.

Like Tintola says. The people who survived the Bubonic plague, did so by natural imunity. And the gene for imunity to the bubonic plague has been traced in more recent years. And proved to be linked to stronger immunity to a number of other diseases like AIDS. So natural immunity is better than medication. Which is also essential to deal with known problems.

I lean towards the natural approach, but with limited intervention from modern science when required!
Hows that for a little eachway.
Stories of old timers keeping "soft" gouldians in an all-wire aviary outside on the top of a wind-swept hill during winter keep resinating around in my head. Eventually some acclimatised and flourished, whereby buyers came from all over to snap up these "tough" individuals.
I'm all for letting natural selection play a part, but we have come a fair way since condies crystals and castor oil!
Dunno why but i have this image of Tintola, he appears to me as the witch doctor penguin in happy feet!
You know the one high up on the pile with the plastic six-pack holder around his neck!! Oh wise one!! Is it just me?

WAY OFF!! I have been called many things in my brief time on earth, but never a Penguin Witch Doctor. I will take that as a compliment. I think

Lord, thou knowest better than myself that I am growing older and will soon be old. Keep me from becoming too talkative, and especially from the unfortunate habit of thinking that I must say something on every subject and at every opportunity.
Release me from the idea that I must straighten out other peoples' affairs. With my immense treasure of experience and wisdom, it seems a pity not to let everybody partake of it. But thou knowest, Lord, that in the end I will need a few friends.
Keep me from the recital of endless details; give me wings to get to the point.
Grant me the patience to listen to the complaints of others; help me to endure them with charity. But seal my lips on my own aches and pains -- they increase with the increasing years and my inclination to recount them is also increasing.
I will not ask thee for improved memory, only for a little more humility and less self-assurance when my own memory doesn't agree with that of others. Teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally I may be wrong.
Keep me reasonably gentle. I do not have the ambition to become a saint -- it is so hard to live with some of them -- but a harsh old person is one of the devil's masterpieces.
Make me sympathetic without being sentimental, helpful but not bossy. Let me discover merits where I had not expected them, and talents in people whom I had not thought to possess any. And, Lord, give me the grace to tell them so.
Amen”

Whoa!!
now that's just plain scary.....enough to scare even a zebbie off its nest for good!!
Glad to here neither are you(can anyone verify?), i think i will stick with the penguin image....
Surely those two are not the result of natural selection!! Way too much self-medication.
I think this thread is far enough off track now....
