That's great If you're new to finches, you can't go wrong with zebra finches. They're very cute, have a nice song, and are pretty hardy so they're perfect for learning about finches. I am a bit biased though, since I have over a hundred!!

Thanks Niki K.. any breeders you could recommend?
A nice little mixed collection would be my choice .
Emblemas Red or Yellow , Gouldians , Zebras and probably room for another pair of hmmmm not sure what .

Reason for this ...not live food eaters so easy to feed when starting out . Colourful and interesting to watch . Not such a challenge to keep these days so long as you buy local , aviary bred birds .

Protection from draughts is important and a dry floor .

So theres something to google and start researching while you decide what you want .
Great advice jusdeb, and thank-you for a such good start. :thumbup:

This where you begin to get spoilt for choice! :D
Now you have the 5 posts you should be able to see the Species Profile section and the Classified section
viewforum.php?f=43" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
viewforum.php?f=152" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Each bird listed has a short profile and a picture of the bird
viewforum.php?f=68" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Remember when stocking your avairy to allow room for future young. So don't overstock. Hey we all do it at least once in our lives. So worth mentioning.

I have some that I'm currently breeding, which will be available next year. I hear AMCA has great colour mutations as well, and may have some available now. They breed pretty readily and are quite social (read: can annoy other finches that are nesting), so you probably won't want too many (only 1 or 2 pairs if you're planning a mixed aviary)
