I just started feeding this years milk seed yesterday & its a good crop quality wise. Nice & clean with a bit of grass seed in there for some added variety too. Your birds will be grateful. My birds have been on just sprouted seed for the past couple of months as I ran out of green seed then, & they have done well on the sprouted stuff but they had bit more of a spring in their step when they saw the green seed in there yesterday. Great timing with 1st round young Gouldians hatching left right & centre at this time of year. Good luck with the logistics.

Hi Tiaris
How much do you give each of your birds each day?

Each breeding aviary (5-6 breeding pairs of mixed finches) gets 2 heaped desertspoons per day.

Hi Tiaris,

I am basing my order on 2 containers per pair per year....I will continue to provide sprouted seed but will substitute half the sprouted seed with milk seed....it's a bit hard to work out how many scoops in a container....but does my amount seem too little/high based on what you are giving your birds?

Thanks, Paul

I don't know how many scoops are in a container but 2 containers per pair sounds like more than ample to me. I'm giving the green seed & sprouted seed 50:50 this year too.

THE WHEELS ON THE TRUCK GO ROUND AND ROUND!!!!

The seed has left the Brisbane depot and is expected into Melbourne early Friday....it will obviously be staying (frozen) in transit through Sydney until it arrives....a few hickup's at the Brisbane end, but thanks to some helpful people at the Brisbane depot all has been soughted.

Keep you posted....most likely by mobile phone now that the AFF will be down for a few days....cheers, Paul

So that's 2 heaped dessertspoon for 10 to 12 birds per day? If you weren't doing 50/50 with sprouted seed would you double the green seed?

Hi All,

It appears our seed is on track to be delivered to Port Melbourne by tomorrow morning. Assuming that will be the case I will pick up the seed myself and bring it back at my place before lunch time tomorrow....I will text each of you tomorrow to confirm this.

Please be aware that when you get your text it will mean that your seed will be ready for pick up tomorrow. I am happy for you to pick up the seed whenever it is convenient for you, however I do not recommend the seed being out of a freezer for any more than 6-8 hours in total. I do not have sufficient storage to keep everyone's seed frozen for any length of time.

Therefore it will be your responsibility to pick up the seed as early as possible. If your are unable to pick up the seed within a couple of hours of my notification the condition of the seed will be your responsibility.

I hope this message doesn't sound too cold however the point needs to be clear that anyone picking up their seed late Friday or early Saturday the likely result will be that the your seed will defrost and be useless.

However I am sure most will have their seed back in their own freezer within a few hours of it arriving at my place and all will be fine.

Cheers,
Paul
