yes mate...even better if they cannot see each other...otherwise they may establish a bond as they come into the next breeding season...and it may be a cock/hen that you don't want to pair up

I'm about to declare my season done and separate the pairs and put young in holding flight. 8 pairs, 1 pair raised 4 (1 died first night out, so 3 left on perch), one pair got 2 of 5 on perch. Countless abandoned eggs, at least a two other nests with young abandoned and no second clutches anywhere. I suppose things are improving though, last year none fledged from 3 pairs. Many of the birds were young birds bought for this season so hopefully things will pick up his year. I'm probably going to cull a bit too and go back to 6 pairs as I didn't plan on 8 but when some breeders will only sell 2 birds and you only want "that one" I wound up with more birds than I had planned. Tempted to have one flight of yellow backs and one flight of "pure" normal RH.

sorry for coming in late on this one.Yes they are wonderful birds for what they give - colour, young and viewing pleasure. Yes separate to give the female a rest. Also if you breed too late in the season you wont get enough maturity on them before they moult in spring and run the risk of stressing the young or loosing them if they are a little bit imature. You also run the risk that they wont moult early and you have to hang onto them for a lot longer etc etc.
